Tris White Photography is a full service, Vernon-based Photography Studio that provides an extraordinary client experience, creating natural, timeless images and artworks that clients will treasure for decades to come.   I am a nationally accredited member of the Professional Photographers of Canada and am committed to creating the best quality experience and highest quality products all the time, every time. 

Tris’ Story

For many years I was a teacher and school administrator.  While it wasn’t always peaches and cream, I think I was pretty good at it, with flashes where I was really good. Students, parents and colleagues seemed to genuinely like and appreciate me, and I think I helped some along the way.   I took some pride in doing work that others considered “noble” which made me feel I was doing something relatively important with my life.

However, I came to a point where I realized that I didn’t want to get to the “end” and wish I had tried something different. In my experience you only regret the things you don’t try and so, after some cajoling from my amazing wife, Tris White Photography was born.

But why this path? Answering this question lead me on a journey to a clear understanding of my WHY.  (As an aside I would highly recommend Simon Sinek’s book Start with Why.  I get nothing for promoting it, I just think it’s a really good book.)  As I unpacked some of my formative experiences, both positive and negative, I came to understand that belonging, acceptance, creativity, family, friendship, intimacy, simplicity, story, balance and beauty were the things that I had a deep longing for and inspired me.  These were the things that I wanted in my own life, and the things I wanted others to find.   All this introspection led to the following

I exist to use my time and creativity to remind people of what is truly important; to help them see themselves as beautiful and beloved, and to help them tell their story.

I get that some might see this as a bit over the top, a little too personal, maybe even aiming a little too high.  That’s ok.  And to be honest, I’m sure it comes as no surprise that I don’t always hit this target.  However, I find great comfort, joy and freedom in waking up every morning knowing that, as I aim for this, whether I have camera in hand or not, I am in effect putting on MY clothes, being the truest, most authentic version of myself.   It’s risky I guess, but so worth it.

  • I believe moist is the most disgusting word in the English language

  • I once jumped out of a plane to get over my fear of heights

  • I love to travel and have had the privilege of spending time in 20 different countries on 4 continents

  • U2 … the Tragically Hip a close second

  • If we go to the pub together it’s highly likely that I will be ordering a pint of lager and a plate of calamari

  • I’ve watched “About Time” at least a dozen times

  • I once felt a baby elephant move inside it’s mother
